A stunning new exhibition featuring restored WWI aircraft, multi-media technology taking visitors into battle, uniforms and many other rare and historic items. Contact the museum by telephone on 02 6977 1088 or visit www.aviationmuseum.com.au. 6-7 February 2010: Tauranga City Air Show, Tauranga Airport, New Zealand. On Waitangi weekend Tauranga will be the place to be when the inaugural Tauranga City Air Show fills the skies over the city’s airport. The full air show will be on the Sunday following practice on the Saturday, while family fun programs run both days. Expect balloon rides, live music from ‘pop to brass’, skydivers, gliders, a great range of food and refreshments, a host of trade and topical interest exhibits right through to heavy military iron and battle re-enactments. For more information visit the web site. 7-8 February 2010: Rotary Air Show (5 yearly), Bairnsdale, Vic. A charity event organised by three Rotary clubs of Bairnsdale to raise funds for charity. The 2005 show was described as the best country air show in Australia. It will be supported by the RAAF, RNAS, and USAF and private flying displays. The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS), Shellharbour City Council and SAAA Chapter 4 present Wings Over Illawarra. See many of the HARS aircraft flying, including Connie, the Neptunes, Dakotas, PBY Catalina and guest aircraft from Temora Museum, the RAN Historical Flight and the RAAF Roulettes. Fly in to YWOL as part of the SAAA Fly-in and receive free access to all areas and no landing charges. Many additional displays of classic and vintage vehicles, vintage farm machinery and model aircraft. This event is definitely on but we don't have any information, and there's none on the Museum's web site. 17 March 2010: Houdini 100 Year Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony, Houdini Reserve, Diggers Rest, Vic. Exactly 100 years to the day since the first powered controlled flight in Australia, Diggers Rest will commemorate the occasion with a Commemorative Ceremony. The ceremony will include a flag raising ceremony, speeches, the unveiling of a legacy project, fly-overs and Houdini magic displays. Time 11am-12pm. For more information visit the web site. 17 March-20 April 2010: The Great Australian Air Race, Parafield, Adelaide, SA. The anniversary of 100 years of powered flight in Australia will be celebrated with a grand adventure visiting every state and territory. Leaves from Parafield and winds up 35 days later at a grand ball in Parliament House, Canberra. The 15,000 km event will be open to only 100 aircraft and it is a competition. It hopes to raise more than $1 million for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This day will mark the anniversary of Houdini's circuit around Diggers Rest. Event patrons will be given the chance to WIN a Top Gun adrenalin adventure package. No details at this time, just this is the scheduled date. 2-4 April 2010: Warbirds Over Wanaka 2010, Wanaka, New Zealand. This is one of the four top warbird air shows in the world. You will see warbirds, classic aircraft, modern jets and a variety of Warhorse military vehicles. It is a show case for the world’s most advanced aircraft, as well as the greatest historic and popular aircraft ever produced, exhibited to maximum effect in the natural amphitheatre of the Farnborough Aerodrome. Running parallel to the exhibition, the static aircraft display gives visitors the opportunity to really get up close to the aircraft, to admire and examine them in fine detail. John Duigan built and flew the first Australian powered aircraft in Mia Mia. Mia Mia is 45 minutes drive from Bendigo and 1.5 hours from Melbourne.
