New Zealand
Trip - mostly Norfolk Island
 |
 |
| Air Center
(sic) One's Raynor Simich and Robin Leach who looked after us so well during
the trip. Night in Auckland. |
A sample of
the meal supplied by Air Center One for the flight from Auckland to Norfolk
Island. This and much more! |
 |
 |
| Bad weather
was forecast but you can see it is beautiful as we overfly the Norfolk Island
airport on our arrival. |
Seb has the
PC-12 on final approach to Norfolk Island airport dead ahead. We were looking
forward to this visit. |
 |
 |
| Sebastian
Lip in his work area, the Pilatus PC-12 cockpit. |
Wonderful
meals served on the longer flights. Sorry about the 'bottom' our photographer
seems to like this view! |
 |
 |
| The Commissariat
at Kingston on Norfolk Island. Beautifully restored and used as a church
for many years. |
The New Military
Barracks are surrounded by a high stone wall like the Commissariat for protection
against prisoners. |
 |
 |
| Stewart in
front of the New Military Barracks building. The cannon were to protect
the officers from the prisoners! |
Nepean Island
in the distance and the edge of the Prisoners' Barracks on right. A lagoon
fills the middle distance. |
 |
 |
| The Officer's
Baths are a wonder of engineering. Water flows in through the tunnel, a
bath is cut in the rock and the water flows either side of steps and flows
out a tunnel behind. |
The steps
are very steep and the hand cut rocks make up the walls. The water flows
down stream towards the Prisoners' Barracks closer to the sea. |
 |
 |
| Looking from
the Officer's Baths towards the New Military Barracks and workers homes. |
Prisoners'
Barracks and 'Modern' Prison based on cruel circular cells - so small for
one let alone three prisoners! |
 |
 |
| The restored
quarters of the Foreman of Works and his 'man'. No women were allowed on
the island in those days! |
Fascinating
spiders and their webs all over the island. I couldn't resist taking this
shot up close and personal. |
 |
 |
| Beautiful
Anson Bay on the top section of the island with pounding surf and wonderful
Norfolk Island pines. |
Looking back
onto the island and the pines, the weathered cliff face and the boiling
sea crashing on the sand and rocks. |
 |
 |
| Ruedi Rohrer,
Stewart Wilson and Terry Wesley-Smith above Anson Bay on a perfect day. |
The Wilsons
at Anson Bay (note the Australian Aviation Enthusiast Group's cap) kindly
taken by Terry. |
 |
 |
| I believe
this is the Moo-oo Stone at the Captain Cook lookout. We were talking to
Kiwis as the sun set here. |
From the same
spot the Cathedral Rock and other shapes. There were numerous interesting
sea birds roosting here. |
 |
 |
| Looking uphill
from the monument to the National Park. |
A beautiful
sunset at the Captain Cook lookout. |
