The Australian Aviation Enthusiast Group

The Australian Aviation Enthusiast Group (AAEG) was formed in 1980 and provides an informal forum for aviation industry employees, modelers, spotters and aviation enthusiasts to discuss aviation matters and participate in various activities.

What We DO: AAEG activities include an annual aviation memorabilia auction night, an annual quiz night, slide nights, guest speakers, photograph and model competitions, and video nights. The December meeting is our Annual General Meeting.

In December we hold an annual barbeque usually by the active runway at Melbourne International Airport.

The AAEG also participates in outside events. Each year we enter a display in the Model Expo held at the Melbourne Showgrounds and all members are encouraged to contribute.

Monthly raffles are held to raise funds for the club with prizes kindly donated by Collectors Aircraft Models (and some donations by Stewart and Wendy Wilson's Notebook Publications). A high value raffle is held each year to supplement the monthly raffles. For model kit builders Victorian Hobby Centre normally provides a list of new releases each month.

NOTAM: All members receive our monthly newsletter NOTAM, which is posted out although you can opt to receive it by email. Each month NOTAM includes information on upcoming meetings, historical references, new releases in the model world and aviation pictures related to Australian aviation.

Where we meet: The AAEG conducts its monthly meetings at Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine), Hilton Hotel - reception level, Airo cafe, private dining room. Parking is available at discounted rates to members and attendee's through the hotel reception at a flat rate of $5.00 per vehicle, during the monthly meetings.

Upon joining members are issued with a badge and membership card which must be presentedto the hotel staff to make use of the discounted parking. It is prohibited to use the club cards to gain additional discounted parking OUTSIDE meeting times. Some catering is provided to members free of charge during meeting nights, such as finger food. Drinks,
Tea and coffee are also available but at bar prices.

When we meet: AAEG meetings are held on the first Tuesday night of each month (except for November). November meetings are held on the second Tuesday to avoid the Melbourne Cup holiday. Meetings commence at 7.30pm and normally conclude around 10.30pm, finger food provided.

Tea, coffee and other drinks are available from the bar.
